Case Study: How Lovejoy ISD built a repeatable foundation for lesson plans

October 16, 2026 | By Jason Martin
1,772 instructional units built in Beacon providing a curriculum foundation that helps Lovejoy teachers plan consistently and reuse resources. 186courses planned and prepared enabling scale and visibility. 434 unit and course resources put into teachers' hands. 54% of students achieved Masters Grade level compared to 24% statewide across all grades and subjects (2025-2026 school year).
Background: Furthering a High Performance Culture

Lovejoy Independent School District is a small but mighty school system in Collin County serving more than 4,000 students across five campuses. Although smaller than many surrounding districts, Lovejoy takes pride in its exemplary academics and award-winning extracurricular programs
‍
That commitment extends to the daily work of 230+ teachers, including Emily Peabody, a seventh-grade Texas history teacher who plans for advanced and gifted courses. Peabody quickly embraced Beacon, becoming a core user who helped educators across Lovejoy understand its value and grow its potential.

‍Challenge: Turning Old Files into Reusable Curriculum

Lovejoy teachers relied on extensive, poorly-organized documents in Google Drive. Over many years, their resources accumulated a mess of supporting links, embedding standards and instructional materials in individual plans rather than a centralized resource. The resulting curriculum was impossible to scale and reuse.

As Lovejoy worked to advance its culture of high performance and address remaining gaps in instructional planning, the district needed a way to bring its existing materials into an easier-to-use, scalable planning system while providing visibility to administrators

‍Objectives: Going the Extra Mile for Visibility and Achievement

As Lovejoy brought planning into Beacon, the platform helped achieve the district’s broader effort to deliver rigorous instruction, strengthen instructional coaching, and give administrators greater visibility into daily plans. Lovejoy’s district goals included:

  • “Plan and deliver rigorous instruction aligned to the TEKS that promotes deep understanding, critical thinking, and meaningful application of knowledge.”
              - 2025 District Goal 3, Performance Objective 1, Strategy 1‍
  • “Implement an instructional coaching model, ‘student-centered coaching,’ PreK-12, to enhance overall teacher performance and improve student achievement outcomes.”
              - 2025 District Goal 2, Performance Objective 4, Strategy 3
  • “District and campus administrators will regularly monitor teacher lesson plans and conduct regular classroom walkthroughs to provide feedback and monitor student learning and instruction."
              - 2025 District Goal 3, Performance Objective 1, Strategy 5
The Aha Moment: Capitalizing on Years of Planning in Minutes

To further the district goals, Lovejoy brought lesson planning into Beacon without asking teachers to abandon built structures and standards in Drive. Educators could transfer existing plans, leaving links intact, and then organize each lesson using Lovejoy’s planning format.
‍
Plans that previously lived in shared drives could be implemented in seconds without abandoning prebuilt structures and standards, all while providing the district visibility to ensure each teacher’s plans support the district goals. Now, teachers can use a backlog of high-value curriculum to create new plans in minutes, and leaders can help them succeed.

"The beautiful thing is once you've done this for one year, all you have to do is go back into your previous plans."
‍Results: From Google Drive to Real Student Impact
  • Built 1,772 instructional units in Beacon, providing a structured curriculum foundation for consistent planning
  • Planned and prepared 186 courses, creating greater instructional consistency and visibility across the district
  • Added 434 unit and course resources, putting shared materials and existing resources in teachers’ hands
  • 54% of Lovejoy students achieved Masters Grade Level, compared to 24% statewide across all grades and subjects in 2026
Looking Ahead: Visible Planning That's Ready to Scale

With its initial course and unit foundation in place, Lovejoy’s educators are no longer starting from scratch. They can return to previous instruction, preserve what worked, and make targeted improvements rather than rebuilding plans every year. As teachers continue adding and refining materials, Beacon will build a repository of valuable resources and banks while strengthening alignment between district curriculum and daily instruction.

For Lovejoy, Beacon is way more than simply a new place to document lesson plans. It is building the infrastructure that allows the district to preserve strong instructional practices and continue building on them.
